The Saturday Night Live cast came together in the first sketch of the year to address the arrest of Nicolás Maduro, the actions of ICE agents in Minnesota, and the protests in Iran.
James Austin Johnson portrayed President Donald Trump, proudly claiming to have received the Nobel Peace Prize and to have kidnapped the Venezuelan president on January 3.
“I got what I wanted: my very own Nobel Prize from someone else, which I will cherish forever!” he said about receiving the award from Maduro opponent María Corina Machado.
“And in my sock I got Maduro. Nicolás Maduro! We did a reverse Santa Claus with him. We went down the chimney and took him away,” Johnson joked.
Also on stage were Marcello Hernandez as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Jeremy Culhane portraying Vice President JD Vance.
Another actress who took part in the satire was Ashley Padilla, who played Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, responsible for controversial remarks following the death of Renee Nicole Good, who was shot by an ICE agent.
“Now, obviously, there were clashes on both sides in Minneapolis, and were we perfect? Yes,” Padilla said.
“I know a lot of people watching the situation in Minnesota are asking the same thing: can I join ICE? Well, let me ask you one thing: is your neck wider than your head?” she joked.
“Are you currently wearing a Punisher T-shirt? Have you ever punched a wall because your kid took a dance class? If the answer is yes, then grab a gun, any gun, and saddle up, big guy!” she added.
